General information

The theory of DECRECEASE is probably the only answer to the crises of neoliberalism and climate change caused by the current system.
We are bombarded with information that speaks of excess waste, rising temperatures, economic crisis, climate change,.... collapse.

The Collectives of Berguedà and Ripollès pel Decreixement are activists who have organized in the territory to work and disseminate through a documentary, the idea of degrowth.

In the counties and villages we still have small stores and local producers. We are also organizing family, social and cooperative initiatives, health, educational, economic and political-social. In short, a model of sustainable life.

We have decided to make this documentary to show these initiatives and small businesses that surround us and are working according to a regenerative and respectful concept with people and the environment. To GROW towards a fertile, sustainable and healthy world.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

We were inspired by the Documentary "Tomorrow" (Cyril Dion, 2015).
We realize that in our environment exist and grow alternatives to the dominant system of consumption and we come up with the idea of making a documentary where we give visibility to an economy of proximity and promote the circular economy. Another system of economy is growing in our environment, enriching for our regions.
Just as "Tomorrow" is a trip around the world explaining transformative alternatives, our "world" is a smaller and closer world where it is possible to make alternatives more connected to each other.
The documentary would be a trip on bicycle through our regions showing ways of working, living and above all, thinking differently.
The thread of the script of the documentary uses as a metaphor the curiosity and the open look of a small group of children, free of preconceived ideas and fixed opinions, we enter a world of questions that shows us the way of living of the current system and the possibility of change.
for us it is an essential project to promote a response to the current individualistic and consumerist life.
While we will make known the transformative initiatives, we will have the participation of different voices of the theory of degrowth and the environment.

Why this is important

For us the world is losing its balance.
The image of the planet burning is symbolic!
With the experience of living and acting in our environment we have the conviction that most people have a great sensitivity to injustice. People feel that they want and need a better life:
to have time to live, to be with loved ones, free time, necessary for a good life. As well as the security of a decent place to live, to be able to eat well and to have what they need but at the same time there is a lack of knowledge and awareness of alternatives.
This is what we want to demonstrate: the existing and life-transforming alternatives.
"What you cannot imagine, cannot come into being" (bell hooks, 1952-2021)

The documentary will be a "tool" to push debates:
in the schools (very important the children and the young people), in the villages, in the cities, in the institutions.
The documentary has to serve to imagine a different life in different cities and towns, made and thought on a human scale. Places to make community between people and for people.
We hope that our documentary can be extended to other alternatives and regions.

Team and experience

Most of the participants of the association are activists in different social and environmental organizations: Greenpeace, Grup de defensa del Ter, Procés Constituent, Xarxa d'Economia Social i Solidaria (XES), among others.

There is a long inter-regional collaboration between Berguedà and Ripollés through the joint experience of Proces Constituent (Teresa Forcades and Arcadi Oliveres).
We have carried out different activities such as the campaign against TTIP (Free Trade Agreements) bringing together all the municipalities of the region in a joint motion.
The Arrelament, a performance in the Diada de Catalunya 2016 in Berga (see photo).
As well as the activities against the EPA's ( Economic,Partnership Agreement), a "free" trade contract between EU and several African countries, (see: IViva, Nr. 275,P.127).
Participation in local policies, town councils and other county projects such as the project: forestlord.cat.
